November 18th, 2011DiHydroTestosterone (DHT) is an androgen that the body produces naturally. It can be understood as a metabolite of testosterone and can be normally found in hair follicles, testes, prostate glands and adrenal glands.
Actually, testosterone gets converted into dihydrotestosterone by the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, and dihydrotestosterone is considered several times more potent than testosterone.
Functions Performed by Dihydrotestosterone
Dihydrotestosterone performs multiple functions in the body. These include:
1. The levels of dihydrotestosterone in the womb determine the sex of the fetus.
2. Dihydrotestosterone is largely responsible for the development of male secondary and sexual characteristics.
